The restoration of antique clocks
is a process which can only be done properly. There are two parts to
a restoration. Firstly the case must be sympathetically restored. Secondly,
to keep a clock in good working order and to give it the best chance
of surviving mechanically for many more generations to come, a clock
needs to have all of the following done every ten years or so, or less
if it fails sooner
- Complete dismantling
- Cleaning
- Repair of all bearing surfaces, which involves lapping all 'pivots'
to a highly polished finish and the bushing of all the pivot holes as
required.
- Inspection for wear and damage of every part.
- Replacement of 'consumable' parts (for instance, the gut lines on
which longcase weights hang)
- Reassembly
- Lubrication
- Testing
Our mechanical restorations do all
of these things and carry a full 12 month warranty.
